Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Spokane Concert reviews
George and Martina put on a great show!
"Attended a Mannheim Steamroller Christmas concert for the third time, and this was his best performance. The t-shirts lines were not as long, and the Excel Center is a great facility with non-existent entry lines. Mannheim Steamroller Christmas puts on a great show whenever he performs. Martina, a class act as well, played the same songs from last year's KC show. Before retirement from touring, this is a concert you must see."
Great show unorganized venue
The seating was fine. The show was great. Biggest issue was the times and parking.
We waited 45 min just to get to the entrance and park. During the main act鈥檚 performance the sound was cutting at some points until it was eventually fixed. Sounds was on and off at some points. Luckily I had cash, when I finally got up to the entrance it was $20 to park and they only accepted cash.
God knows what would have been the outcome if I wouldn鈥檛 have had cash. After finally Parking it was fairly quick to enter. There was no staff directing traffic therefore the traffic was a mess.
By the time I was finally in the event everyone prior to the main act had already performed and it was an intermission. A couple people that were able to catch the beginning of the show said the opening acts barely had a crowd, i am assuming due to atleast 60% of the attendees being stuck trying to park.
We missed every act except for the headliner just waiting in line trying to park. Finally the venue asked the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas to end the show at 11:40pm and cut the sound shortly after. They didn鈥檛 allow the artist a proper closing. I don鈥檛 blame the artist, the time management by the venue was horrible.
Uneven, but enjoyable.
One of the worst venues in the city remains Terminal 5. The bar apparently no longer allows you to keep the lid on your drink, so that's a downside. There are always sound problems there, but they were minimal this time, restricted mostly to the opening act and Mannheim Steamroller Christmas's back-up singer.
The show was pretty solid otherwise, but Mannheim Steamroller Christmas is not the most interesting performer I've ever seen. He's not great at transitioning between songs, staying awkwardly silent most of the time, and the show was oddly paced. He would often build energy with a few wonderfully performed songs like the Jenny Don't Be Hasty/New Shoes medley of the first album, and then play a much slower song that let all that energy deflate. This happened quite often and made the show a little exhausting. He does, however, sound fantastic live, and when the energy is up, there's nothing like it. The performance of "Iron Sky" was a highpoint.
Definitely recommend seeing him live, but perhaps at a venue where you're allowed to sit every once in a while and react to the mood Mannheim Steamroller Christmas is currently setting.
